Do Composite Decks Get Hot?

It is easy to mix different colors or textures to create a piece of artwork with your deck design. The colors stay true, so the beauty will last as long as the material itself.

Even buying the best cedar and finishing both sides — 10 years it was a mess. I took off the PT after 4 years and put down the Zuri … down about 5 years now. It’s strong enough to span the 16″ on a very solid structure. It’s 100 percent PVC and it’s equipped with an ASA capstock as well. Even though it’s the PVC and ASA, it’s what’s in the mix of the product.

Install Composite Decking From Newtechwood

In my climate PT wood is a huge maintenance item - at least it is if you care what it looks like. I have had to sand the finish off of my decks 2-3 times in the lat 10 years in order to re-finish them. My plan is to have the builder screw down all of the boards to make it easier for me to replace them down the road. I will go with PT boards with the goal of keeping them for 5-7 years. By then, there should be more data on today's top selling composites as well as newer products . I can replace the deck boards with something else - if that becomes necessary.

Because we knew we wanted trex, we made the deck only as large as really necessary. It's not as pretty as the old cedar deck, but to my eyes it's more beautiful because it doesn't need maintenance. As we age, that issue will become more and more important to us. The new deck is partly covered, but since it's all one deck, we kept the material the same. Composite decking, because it is naturally resistant to mold, does not rot. The construction is sturdier in that a typical deck, when installed correctly, can last for twenty-five years or longer.

Which Type Of Composite Decking Should I Pick?

Maintenance

Would you mind telling me more about the concrete deck option? I posted on the decks and porches forum, but no one seemed to have any information there on concrete . We barbecue , drink wine and otherwise actually USE our trex deck. Even though it’s not required, I highly suggest sealing it anyway.

Composite decks are less work, so you get to enjoy the money you spent. I don’t know about you, but that alone is worth the money for me. If you’re going to spend $6,000 on a deck, you may as well have a warranty. The warranties for composite decks are long and for good reason. They can withstand a lot of foot traffic and look great for ages. You want it to look as good as the day you built it, even years down the line.

I always imagined that would require less maintenance than our full sun deck. ;) We have a wood deck in full sun that has to be recoated every single year. The only area that looks slightly worn are the steps there which get more sun of course.

Is a composite decking worth it

The upkeep side of things can not only be expensive, but exhausting for owners too. Consider the cost, visual appeal and care requirements of each platform type before making your decision. It’s also necessary to think about the terrain surrounding your property and how you’d like to use your outdoor living area. This guide will help you discover whether you should put in a deck or patio. Composite timber and natural timber have their own unique selling points. However, many people would be of the opinion that the drawbacks of timber outweigh the benefits, and in the end it’s just not worth the effort and cost of upkeep. A suggestion for an additional category to add to your Decking section would be an evaluation of all the products that provide a dry space under a deck.

  • You can then remove the green stuff right away with a cleaning solution designed for that exact purpose.
  • When you choose composite decking for your home, then you’re using a product that is primarily made of recycled products.
  • The recycled plastic in the product takes waste away from the ocean or having it enter our food supply.
  • That means you don’t need to cut down more trees just so that you can build a deck.
  • Your final cost will depend on different factors and features that you want to have on your boards, such as scratch resistance or UV protection.

VEKADECK is the best deck board in the entire vinyl decking industry. It’s very difficult to get and they only offer their products to the top decking companies in the country. If the article was to say there are a lot of cheap, garbage composites out there…I would agree.

Maintenance is the #1 reason that we went with composite deck material on our second floor deck. Maintaining a ground level deck is one thing, doing so on the second story is just something I didn't want to have to figure out. I am in the process of building a new home and will have several outdoor decking areas, most of them covered. The upper main deck has two sections - one section is covered and is screened in, the second section is not covered. There is a lower deck that runs underneath the entire 2 upper deck sections, so it is completely covered. I also have a separate lanai off the master bedroom that is covered.
